This body of work was an exploration of the mathematical concept of geometrical shape and how the artist, and indeed everybody, translates these concepts into images that can be seen. For instance the mathematical concept of a straight line in Euclidian geometry is the shortest distance between two points. It has no width or breadth and cannot be seen. To illustrate this concept, we draw a line, which does have width and breadth and is therefore not mathematically correct, but it is as close artisticly as we can get.

I took simple geometric shapes, intersected them, then created three dimensional interpretations of them. These sculptures were the result.

I have plans to explore this field further with more complex mathematical concepts. I am not a mathmamatician but this work helps me appreciate the beauty of mathematics.
